THE SANTA YNEZ VALLEY The Santa Ynez Valley is one community that is made up of several smaller communities -- Santa Ynez itself, Los Olivos, Solvang, and Buellton. All communities share the same restaurants, the same shopping routines, the same movie theatre (Parks Plaza in Buellton on Industrial Way), and the same high school. Use the back button to see details on each community.
The Santa Ynez Valley lies a 1/2 hour drive north of Santa Barbara, taking Highway 154 through the beautiful Santa Ynez Mtns and past Cachuma Lake. Make a left turn on Hwy 246 and enter the quaint little town of Santa Ynez or Solvang a few miles to the west. Or stay straight on Hwy 154 for another few miles to the artist community of Los Olivos.
To the north of the Santa Ynez Valley, just a 10 minute drive up Highway 101 is the community of Los Alamos, nestled amidst acres and acres of vineyards and horse/cattle ranches. Another 20 minutes northward is Santa Maria -- the northern boundary of Santa Barbara County.
The Santa Ynez Valley enjoys a wondeful climate. Winters are relatively mild with occasional frost in the closest months. Summer temperatures are typically in the '80's. There are occasional heat spells when the temperatures break 100. But even on the hottest days, the nights are cool, with late afternoon and evenings breezes. The mountains ranges that form the Valley run from east to west -- this leaves the west end of the Valley open to the coastal influence.
