Santa Ynez Valley general information

  Lompoc

Highway 246 begins on the east end at the intersection of Highway 154 in Santa Ynez. It continues west through Solvang, and then Buellton, and then goes another 17 miles west to Lompoc.

The stretch between Buellton and Lompoc is full of interest. Here you'll find Santa Rita Hills Wine Appellation (officially called Sta. Rita Hills to distinguish it from a South American growing region also known as Santa Rita,) La Purisima Golf Course lapurisimagolf.com , historic La Purisima Mission, and ranches, ranchettes, farms, horse farms, and vineyards. The Sta. Rita Hills appellation is known for its Pinot Noir grapes made famous by the movie, SIDEWAYS

As you continue towards Lompoc, you will notice more impact from the coastal influence. The area has a slightly more moderate climate than the Santa Ynez Valley, with cooler summers, and warmer winters.

This beautiful 17-mile stretch between Buellton and Lompoc is one of the greatest treasures of our region -- acres of rural land, much of it under cultivation of row crops or vineyards, and a sense of the wide open spaces.
